What affects conversion quality
Text-based PDFs
PDFs created from Word, Google Docs, web pages, or any digital source contain actual text characters. These convert to DOCX with high fidelity — text, headings, and basic formatting are preserved. Tables with simple structure also convert well.
Scanned / image PDFs
PDFs created by scanning physical documents contain images, not text. Converting these requires OCR (Optical Character Recognition) which may introduce errors, especially with handwriting, poor scan quality, or complex layouts. Results vary significantly based on scan clarity.
Getting the best results from PDF to Word conversion
Check if text is selectable first
Open the PDF and try selecting text with your cursor. If you can highlight words, it's a text-based PDF and will convert well. If selection doesn't work, it's a scanned image and results will be approximate.
Complex layouts may need manual cleanup
Multi-column layouts, text wrapped around images, and PDFs with heavy design elements often need formatting fixes after conversion. Headers, footers, and page numbers may appear inline rather than in their designated positions.
Tables convert best when they're simple
Standard grid tables with consistent rows and columns convert accurately. Merged cells, nested tables, and tables with spanning headers may lose their structure — plan to verify and adjust these manually in Word.
Your documents stay private
Files are uploaded to a private processing server over HTTPS, converted, and permanently deleted immediately after the converted file is returned to your browser. No file is stored, logged, indexed, or used for any purpose. The server does not retain copies.
